SYNOPSIS
Spring 1898 – Yukon Territories
With news of a significant gold find in the riverbeds of the northwest Rockies,
thousands of Stampeders from around the world flocked to the Yukon for
inestimable riches and adventure. Most expected hardships, arctic chill, vigorous
terrain; none could have imagined facing an outbreak of the walking dead.
The bonanza in Dawson was so significant that miners and prospectors flocked there from nearby mining communities, leaving dozens of ghost towns throughout the Yukon; perfect settlement for outlaws and those cast out of regular society.
In 1898 Forty Mile is one of these ghost towns.
Forty Mile’s population saw substantial decline in 1884, when a plague of
cannibalistic madness struck and spread rapidly. The Devil Dead, as the infected
came to be known, were contained, and the apocalypse averted. As years
passed, the events of that winter became mired with confusion, rumour and legend. Only a handful of survivors know the truth about the murderous Devil Dead.
Until now...
Some remaining inhabitants of Forty Mile have uncovered an abandoned
shipping crate, potentially filled with gold bounty, lost or stashed by miners on
their exodus from the Yukon. Inside, however, to the horror of all, is a rotting
corpse. The sight and stench is unbearable, but the real horror begins as the corpse suddenly rises up to ravenously bite and infect one of the outlaws, freeing the virus and initiating another outbreak of Devil Dead.
One by one over the next twenty four hours the inhabitants of Forty Mile are
infected by their friends, their family and enemies: outlaws; scavengers; the
saloon keeper and dancing girls; the North West Mounted Police; miners and
prospectors; missionaries; Natives… no one is immune. Mayhem ensues as the
survivors grow paranoid and frantic, and the Devil Dead lay waste to any living
soul that they cross. The spread is relentless.
Just as in 1884, some determined survivors recognize their duty: destroy all infected, lest the outbreak will have no end.
